Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cook-Rite 60-Minute Quartz Timer, White

Customer Review: After 5 mos. it only worked half the time
Summary: 1 Stars

I'd have to check on whether the hand was moving, and what's the point of a timer you have to check up on?

Customer Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

Pros: Very simple and does not look cheap. Works as advertised.
Cons: A little bit quiet. Be sure to take it to your room, you will never hear it from the kitchen if you close your door.

Customer Review: Best Combination of Analog and Digital!
Summary: 5 Stars

This timer has the best combination of classic and digital features. It has a classic look and feel so that it is easy to see the numbers and easy to set the time. But, it runs on a battery like a digital timer which means silent operation (no ticking!) and a great escalating ring. The only wish I have is that it was made in more colors.

Customer Review: Best Little Timer I have ever had!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Good, loud ring that gets louder and louder until you turn it off. Works great, easy to use, good price. I ordered two of them right off the bat because they are sooooo hard to find!! Highly recommend these great little gadgets. Keeps accurate time, well made. Came well packaged, delivered quickly.

Customer Review: Can't use it if it won't work
Summary: 1 Stars

The first glimmer of trouble came at about the fifth use. The alarm is supposed to get progressively louder. Only in this instance, it emitted a kind of squawk like a wounded bird. After a few more uses, it refused to work at all. One would turn the knob and look for the blinking light (hard to see in daylight unless you cup your hand over it), but in complete vain. Thinking maybe the light had simply failed, I'd wait to see if the dial made its way back toward zero. Nope, it remained as stubborn and unyielding as a toddler in a high seat presented with a spoonful of mashed brussels sprouts.

Troubleshooting step #2: Perhaps the battery wasn't working. Sunbeam was kind enough to include a battery with the purchase (in hindsight, nothing but a cruel joke). Could a battery run out in less than a week? Stranger things have happened.

So I replaced it with a shiny new battery I purchased on my own. Would it make a difference? With bated breath and stilled heart, I said a silent prayer and turned the timer knob. I stared at that little red light in the bottom right corner (how long? I'd tell you, if the timer worked). Wait -- was that a blink? No, just a tear in my eye as the realization dawned over me that I was stuck with a worthless lemon. And less than a week from the moment I opened the package, so filled with hopes and dreams of baking and cooking to perfection. Why, this timer was going to change my life, and for the better! Oh, how bitter I feel, how cynical I've become, how I weep when I look back on that poor misguided innocent.

Even after reinstalling the battery several times, I witnessed nary a twitch of the timer knob, nor the faintest spark of life from the telltale red light. This timer was dead. Deceased. No more. It had shuffled off this mortal coil. It was Monty-Python-parrot-sketch dead.

Oh, for the days when thieves like these miserable manufacturers would be horse-whipped, tarred and feathered for daring to unload such calamitous junk on an unsuspecting public!
