Customer Review: Inaccurate UNSAFE product

Bought this when a different model of candy thermometer from Taylor (see review for Taylor Precision Products Candy/Deep Fryer Thermometer) did not work and decided to also test it before using it in an application where an accurate temperature reading was crucial. Although I own a fantastic instant thermometer (Thermapen) I wanted something I could clip onto a pot while cooking to measure temperature. I brought water to a full rolling boil and inserted this model of Taylor thermometer. It took about 25-30 seconds for the temp to climb to 200 degrees....water boils at 212 degrees. I put my Thermapen into the boiling water and within 4 seconds the temperature registered 212 degrees. I left the Taylor in the boiling water for over 2 minutes and the temperature never rose above 200 degrees. But here is the UNSAFE part: I took the Taylor thermometer out of the boiling water and following the directions on the package I clipped it to a large empty glass to cool (directions: "Do not lay thermometer on cold or wet surface. Hang by pan clip until cool"). The thermometer bulb was not touching the glass but about 10 seconds later I heard a SNAP and the bulb shattered into little bits of glass.
Stay away from this unsafe item. This is the second Taylor product that failed immediately out of the package. I'll be trying another brand.
