The only thing this thermometer is good for frying is itself... On first use, when the oil was at about 375 - the head of the thermometer started melting, exposing the wires and sliding down toward the oil and then the LCD screen went blank. I was left hustling to keep the thermometer from falling into the oil while searching the kitchen for an alternative thermometer. This is the second Taylor thermometer (first was for the oven) that I've had issues with.
